Top 5: Most Successful Players/Pairs in BWF World Tour Finals

As the year comes to an end, the top eight players and pairs on the BWF World Tour circuit look forward to participating in the Finals tournament. It is one of the top-tier badminton tournaments offering the most ranking points and prize money.

So players and pairs give their all to come on top of their opponents and grab the tag of the champions. Since its inception in 2018, a few names have dominated the BWF World Tour Finals, winning the tournament on several occasions.

Here we’ll list the top five most successful players or pairs in the BWF World Tour Finals.

5. Dechapol Puavaranukroh & Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand)

BWF World Tour Finals Won: 2 (Mixed Doubles)

The Thai mixed doubles pair of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai have featured in six editions of the finals. They made it the year-ender from 2018 to 2023 in a row, while winning the championship twice.

Dechapol and Sapsiree won their first title on their home turf in Bangkok in 2020. They added another trophy in the next edition held in Bali.

4. Tai Tzu-ying (Chinese Tapei)

Tai Tzu-ying is a competitive name on the World Tour circuit. She has clinched the year-end tournament title two times.

Tzu-ying has made it to the finals five times, returning with empty hands on her first attempt. The Chinese Taipei shuttler then staged a comeback in 2020 to win her first trophy.

She missed the 2021 edition and lost the closely contested 2022 final to Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi. The next year, though, she turned the tables and emerged as champion by beating Carolina Marin.

3. Chen Qingchen & Jia Yifan (China)

BWF World Tour Finals Won: 3 (Women’s Doubles)

This is one of the two Chinese pairs to win the BWF World Tour Finals three or more times. The duo of Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan qualified for the first edition, though they exited after the group stage.

They returned in 2019 to land their first finals title before missing the next two editions. Chen and Jia were at it again in 2022 and 2023, adding two trophies. They were aiming to make a hat-trick in the 2024 edition but crashed out of the semi-finals.

2. Viktor Axelsen (Denmark)

BWF World Tour Finals Won: 3 (Men’s Singles)

Viktor Axelsen is the second-most successful player in the BWF World Tour Finals. The Danish shuttler is among the most consistent players in the sport in current times.

Axelsen has been successful in etching his name on the finals trophy three times. He has reached the year-ender five times and emerged victorious in three consecutive editions from 2021 to 2023.

Axelsen didn’t face a lot of challenges in any of his three summit clashes, winning the matches with two straight-set wins.

1. Zheng Siwei & Huang Yaqiong (China)

BWF World Tour Finals Won: 4 (Mixed Doubles)

The Chinese duo of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong is the most successful pair in the BWF World Tour Finals. They have been a force on the World Tour circuit, having won the finals four times in the mixed doubles category.

The Chinese pair made it to the inaugural edition in 2018 and entered the summit clash, but crashed out as runners-up. But then they bounced back next year to claim their first title.

Zheng and Huang missed the next two finals but then returned in 2022 to win their second finals tournament. They defended their title successfully in 2023 and made it a hat-trick of titles in 2024.
